Our company has as its foundation a beautiful family story. Over the coming time, we will take you on a journey through our story!

Jaco Hendrik de Vries is the founder of VMD and Fritom. In 1844, Jaco made the bold decision to offer shipper services. He converts his house into an office and gets to work!

The De Vries family is an enterprising family; Tjerk Jacob starts a company in motor barge services and Ynze Dijkstra does the same in the same year. The name VMD already appears on letterheads around 1930.

In 1939, VMD Expresse is officially registered and they move to Thorbeckegracht 64 in Zwolle. The first transport foundation was laid.
